| THE GLASS
ROSARY |
| The Glass Rosary is one
of the most deeply rooted religious traditions in Saragossa's history. Its
origin goes back to the 13th of October in 1889 when, for the first time it
went round the streets of Aragon's capital, on the evening following the Pilar
Festival. |
| Since 114 years ago
this religions act has gathered more and more fans. To participate in the Glass
Rosary, everybody dresses up in traditional dress. |
| The fairy lights,
lamps, banners and floats which are so important to this beautiful procession
are kept in the old Church of the Sacred Heard during the rest of the year
where people go to visit them. The Rosary procession is made up of 15 floats
designed by Ricardo Magdalena. Saragossa's Archbishop, the Mayor and town
Councillors all attend the closing ceremony. |

| El Rosario de Cristal
es una de las tradiciones religiosas más enraizadas en la historia de
los zaragozanos. Su origen tuvo lugar el trece de octubre de 1889 cuando, por
primera vez, recorrió las calles de la capital aragonesa al atardecer
del día siguiente de la festividad de la Virgen del Pilar. Por lo tanto
desde hace 114 años este acto religioso reúne cada vez mayor
número de espectadores. Para participar en el Rosario de Cristal todos
ellos se visten con el traje regional. |
| Los faroles y
estandartes además de las carrozas se guardan durante el resto del
año en la Antigua Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús
donde se exhiben al público. El rosario está formado por quince
carrozas diseñadas por Ricardo Magdalena. Al Rosario de Cristal acuden
en la actualidad: El Arzobispo, Cabildo y las primeras autoridades zaragozanas,
el Alcalde y sus Concejales, que abren un cortejo en el que participan
más de 30.000 personas ataviadas con el traje regional de Aragón.
